Joel Symons
Joel is a highly experienced dragon boat coach, and steers person within Canada’s competitive paddling community. He currently serves as a coach for the Senior C Women’s program with CSDC and the Evolution Paddling Club, where he plays a key role in technical development, crew cohesion, and high-performance preparation for the SR C women athletes.

Known for his integrity, and passion for the sport, Joel provides stability for the long-term development of athletes in the Senior C Women’s program.
Cheryl Shannon
Cheryl is a National Team paddler, steers person, educator, coach and and an inspirational member of our club. She leverages her cumulative experiences to work with the development of the Senior C program for CSDC and the Evolution Paddling Club.
She was a mainstay of the Senior A Canadian National Team program for many years, competing internationally and contributing to Canada’s success at World Dragon Boat Racing Championships. In 2023 she transitioned to a steers person, and helped the Sr C National Team program to great success in Pattaya and Brandenburg (2025).

She served as Central Director for Dragon Boat Canada and helped develop key programs, including coach accreditation and steering/technical training, supporting the growth and education of paddlers and coaches nationwide.
